Plain Text Input

The input plain text can be Beta code or any other encoding.

Font to font(s)

Convert plain text encoded with a source font into text encoded with one or more target fonts. This can be useful to convert e.g. ancient Greek texts written with arbitrarily encoded fonts like SuperGreek into Unicode or any other font, or vice-versa.

  1. select fonts as output;
  2. select the source and target fonts in the fonts options pane;
  3. convert some text in the test pane or a set of files from the File menu.

Note that if you select more than 1 fonts as targets your output will be properly shown only in the tester pane (where each portion of the output text will be displayed with its corresponding font), but it will not be saved properly to plain text (which by definition does not allow font change). If you need to convert files in this way use DOCX input (or open them in Word with Theuth), or load them into the tester pane, convert and copy and paste the output.

Fonts to Beta code

This conversion takes as input a plain text encoded according to the specified 'font' or standard and converts it into Beta code.

  1. select Beta as output;
  2. select the fonts used to encode Greek and Latin text in your source using the Beta options pane. There you can also customize some other Beta code parameters;
  3. convert some text in the test pane or a set of files from the File menu.

Unicode font to transliterated Greek

In a Unicode text all the appropriate Greek characters are transliterated into a Latin-based alphabet, which may be limited to the 8-bit "Ansi" Windows-1252 codepage, or use the full Unicode standard to output additional diacritics (but be aware that in this case you should use a font with glyphs for the character codes output, or you will see the familiar ugly squares instead of some characters).

For instance, the first line of the Iliad will be transliterated into a Windows-1252 Latin alphabet as Mênin áeide theà Peleïádeo Akhilêos.

  1. select transliteration as output;
  2. eventually customize a few parameters in the transliteration options pane;
  3. convert some text in the test pane or a set of files from the File menu.
