Ibis
A software demonstrating several encoding conversions
with emphasis on Greek and Latin texts.
Ibis is a demo program which allows you to perform several text conversions.
You can type your input or convert files in batch. Input files can be plain
text files or Word 2007 documents (DOCX). Your input (directly typed or file-based)
can be:
- plain text, either font-based or Unicode;
- plain text, Beta coded;
- Word 2007 document where all the text written using a specified font represents
the input text for the conversion;
- Word 2007 document where all the text written using a specified font represents
Beta-coded text.
In all these cases the core of the conversion process is represented by the same
heuristic converter also used by Theuth. The picture below shows the essential conversion
flows you can follow with Ibis.
In this picture
the shapes represent a text format and encoding, and the connections show the
various conversion types you can select in Ibis. Each connection has a label
summarizing the two most relevant parameters, input and output: for instance,
TXT>fonts means input = plain text (Unicode or arbitrary encoding) and output =
one or more arbitrarily encoded and/or standard encoding fonts; TXT>Beta means
input = plain text and output = Beta code, etc.
